2024.10.1.123Description
This is a letter from Edward Crocker in New Bedford to Samuel Gray in Benicia and dated 09/21/1860. It contains mostly business information as the accounts of the two partners are at odds. Mr. Crocker says it is due to missing letters. He notes that there have been several irregularities in the mails to California due to the Indian troubles on the Overland route and the "hogishness" of Mr. Vanderbilt on the ocean route.
Mr. Crocker mentions a visit from three Benicians; Mr. Houghton, Mr. Hatch and lady, and Mr. Brackett. He alludes to a secret that Mr. Houghton told him which he can't divulge.
Lastly he says he was told about the fire in "Pachecoville" that destroyed Mr. Hook's and Mr. Dells's stores.Collection
