2024.10.1.93Description
This is a letter to Samuel Gray in Benicia from Edward Crocker in New Bedford dated 09/21/1860. Mr. Crocker says there is a discrepancy in the books based on Mr. Gray's last received letter and his own figures. He suspects that he is missing a letter from Mr. Gray and suggests that there was a time recently when the mails were a little disrupted. He suggests the disruptions were due to the "Indian" disturbances and to the "Hogishness" of Vanderbilt on the ocean routes.
Mr. Crocker opines on a question of the credit worthiness of Mr. Dell. He thinks he is a good risk for a loan and praises his industry.
Mr. Crocker had a visit from Mr. Houghton, Brackett, and Hatch. They are all acquaintances of theirs from Benicia. Mr. Houghton told Mr. Crocker a secret that he promised not to reveal but Crocker thinks Mr. Gray can guess what it is.Collection
