This is a partial letter from Lucy Wetmore Gray on the East Coast to her husband Samuel C Gray in Benicia. There is only one piece of paper written on both sides. It probably belongs with another letter.
The letter starts by talking about which books might be best to teach Eddir penmanship. Lucy talks of educating Eddie on the East Coast rather than Benicia but thinks if one of their boys is to stay with her parents and go to school, they would prefer Theo.
Lucy finds a piece of glass in Eddie's pocket and asks him why he has it. He said he wanted to smoke it so he could look at the eclipse in July.
