2024.10.1.286Description
This is a letter dated 03/17/unknown to Harriet Wetmore from her mother Rebecca Wetmore regarding family matters. She talks of widespread flooding around Sacramento and Suisun Valley. She worries for her son Henry who she says has so many troubles. She also gives condolences for the loss of Harriet's child, Berdie (Bertha Jones 1859 - 12/1861). (this means the letter was probably written 03/17/1862). It is further substantiated by the mention of the Civil War battle of New Berne, NC which was in March 1862. In Rebecca's letter she has a very heartfelt paragraph about the men lost in this war and wishes it would end soon.
