This is a letter to Samuel C Gray from Robert Hubbard dated 08/16/1862 from Middletown. Mr. Gray's mother's maiden name was "Hubbard" so Robert is probably Samuel's cousin.
Mr. Hubbard writes about his investment in "School Lands" that may be affected by the Suscol Ranch decision. He then tells Samuel that he has enlisted for 3 years in the Connecticut Volunteers 14th Regiment, Middletown Company as a private.
At the end of his letter he mentions the sinking / fire of the ship Golden Gate in Mexico.Collection
