Gray Letters 1863 03 21Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.181Description
This is a letter addressed from the Fairfield, CA County Treasurers Office and written by Samuel C Gray dated 03/21/1863 to one of his brothers. He mentions his mother's wish to be buried at Trinity Church in Lansingburgh, Rensselaer County, New York. Most of the letter talks of Samuel's times away from home and his periodic visits back to see his mother.
At the end of this letter, he explains why he left Woodridge's Church and joined the St. Paul's Congregation. In part, this was because of Mr. Woodridge's support of the Confederacy (see partial extract of Samuel's letter and newspaper articles of the time.).Collection
