Gray Letters 1866 05 30Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.119Description
The image shows a handwritten letter dated May 30, 1866, from Joanna Gray Evans to Harriet (possibly Harriet Wetmore Jones a sister of Chauncey Wetmore) dated 05/30/1866. In the letter she talks about who she was going to write to, Harriet or Lucy. She wrote to Harriet and talks about Mary's marriage to Lewis Wells (1817 - 1879). She doesn't think that they married for love and wishes Mary had stayed with her while Lewis went "West".
She is also bothered by the fact that she can't find a servant girl. She says that even untrained girls from the country can make more money in factories than as a servant.Collection
