Gray Letters 1866 11 08Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.124Description
This is a letter from Edward Crocker in North Bridgewater, MA to Samuel C Gray in Benicia dated 11/08/1866. (Note that Mr. Crocker moved from New Bedford, MA near the coast, north, to the town of North Bridgewater which is about 40 miles south of Boston.)
The letter talks of Mr. Gray's recent loss to be elected as Treasurer of Solano County. Mr. Crocker comments on why this might have happened and in general on the poor judgement some people use when voting. Note: Interestingly the Solano County Treasurer in 1865 was charged with embezzlement of County fuds. This may be the person that beat Mr. Gray for that office.Collection
