This is a letter from Edward Crocker in North Bridgewater, MA to Samuel C Gray in Benicia dated 12/08/1866. The letter mainly discusses the properties and loans that are now viable since the Suscol Ranch question has been settled. Mr. Crocker is glad the "Boles Woodbridge" situation is now cleared up. He is having some disagreement with Judge Swan about the interest on his loan. Mr. Crocker then brings up the topic of what to do with the properties once they are deeded over. One option is to sell them to Mr. Frisbe and the other is to let Mr. Welch redeem them. Options range from getting $9.25 to $17.20 per acre with the offer from Frisbie at $13.00 per acre. He then talks of Mrs. Thackery not wanting to buy the Hyde property and that he is willing to sell his 1/5th share to Gray for $250. The last item mentioned is the property from Dr. Peabody which was deeded over to Mr. Gray. The letter says little about this land.
The Frisbee mentioned in the letter is probably John B. Frisbe who was the son-in-law of General Vallejo. In 1866 he was a very rich man in the Vallejo-Benicia area. His biography is shown below.
The last page ends with a mention of the Dingley note but there is a page missing after that.Collection
