Gray Letters 1869 07 07

The letter from Crocker to Samuel Gray, dated January 7, 1869, from North Bridgewater, is handwritten in elegant cursive on lined paper. It begins with a salutation to Mr. Samuel C. Gray and proceeds to acknowledge the receipt of a favor dated December 12, which included a ten-thousand-dollar bond of exchange payable in gold coin. Crocker notes that the letter arrived a day or two prior and mentions that a prior letter sent via Overland mail had reached about a week before. Crocker speculates that the letter was sent by Mr. Neville and awaits further correspondence. The writing is legible, with some words appearing more prominently, and the paper shows signs of age, with slight discoloration and creases.
