Gray Letters 1878Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.130Description
This is a letter from Rebecca Hubbard Wetmore (1795 - 1885), to her daughter Lucy Wetmore Gray (1820 - 1879) dated 02/10/1878. She mentions that another daughter, Cornelia (1830 - 1933), started a letter but hasn't finished it. She also says she received the money that Mr. Gray sent but later in the letter is sorry that he has had such financial reverses at his age. She is worried he may have invested in the Paramount mine which she has read have been abandoned.
She comments on Dr. Edward Gray and hopes he can support his large house and staff. She also worries that he will be able to establish his reputation before the "doctor returns". (May refer to his days in Benicia when he wasn't the only doctor in the town. He eventually moved his practice to other cities.)
It looks like Cornelia added a part to the end of the letter. She tells Lucy to not do too much so as to slow her recovery. (This letter is less than 1.5 years before her death.)Collection
