2024.10.1.298Description
This is a letter dated 11/11/1880 from Mother Rebecca Hubbard Wetmore to Samuel C Gray in Benicia. Rebecca talks of receiving money for some note and congratulates Samuel on being in a business he enjoys and can earn his living. She talks of her grandchildren Dr. Edward Gray (1849 - 1920), Arthur (Samuel Arthur - 1853 - 1921) and Theo (1853 - 1921). She is glad that Edward has moved to a place he can practice his profession (probably his move to Santa Cruz), thinks that Theo will make his mark on the world, and is disappointed in Arthur and hopes he will find something soon. (Arthur was a photographer in Benicia and shown as an artist in the 1880 census and a photographer in the 1900 and 1910 census.)
She mentions Gertrude (1866 - 1937) taking care of Lucy Gray when she was sick and that she now attends Ms. Lynch's school (Young Ladies Seminary).
