2024.10.1.336Description
This is a letter dated 11/16/1880 from Mr. Edward Powers Gray to Mr. Samuel C. Gray regarding mainly political matters. The letter starts off by Edward talking about his health problems which aren't improving. He then discusses his recent work including sending multiple articles to the Guardian, a NY church paper. He says he went to the General Convention (church) and saw no improvement in Bishop Wingfield (Benicia).
He starts talking about politics by disagreeing with Samuel's contention in his last letter that "all who didn't vote with him are enemies to their country". He then comments on the deep division of the country and on the issue of tariffs. He thinks there wouldn't have been such a deep divide if the policies of Lincoln had been followed after the Civil War.
