This is a letter dated 02/27/1891 from Mrs. Mary Gray Morton to her brother Mr. Samuel C. Gray regarding mainly estate matters. The letter is discussing the determination of what will happen to their uncle Edward Epps Powers (1793 - 1855) estate now that their cousin Adeline has passed. Edward Powers will had several stipulations in it for how his extensive estate should be distributed. One of the more unusual stipulations was that two of his nephews would each receive $50,000 when they turned 21 if they would change their names legally and forever to the surname "Powers". Since neither lived to age 21 that money was given to Edward's niece Adeline Ann Williams for her use during her lifetime. The situation in 1891 is the death of Adeline and a determination as to how the money in her control (including the previously mentioned $100,000) should now be divided.
