This is a letter from Samuel C Gray to Jane Howard Garrettson addressed as "mother", during a trip East. The name of the sender has been cutout, but the handwriting matches Samuel Gray's. The letter mentions "Fanny", probably Martha Francis Garretson Gray (1847 - 1919), the second wife of Samuel C Gray. It talks of meeting Emma and Della and later says Emma looks more like the addressee than Fanny. Fanny does have a sister named Emma (1858 - 1923). This also supports that the letter is written by Samuel C Gray, and he is calling his mother-in-law, Jane Howard Garretson (1818 - 1903) by the title "mother".Collection
