Description

This is a letter from Samuel C Gray to his daughter Gertrude Gray Morton (her birth name was Lucy Gertrude Gray but was known as Gertrude) dated 10/18/1891. Samuel Gray and his wife, Martha, are traveling and Samuel is letting his children know how they are doing and where they have been traveling. In this letter he describes visiting St. Paul Church on Tremont St in Boston and describes the music they heard and the sermon by Dr. Lindsay. They then visited an old boyhood friend in Roxbury, Charley A. Grinnell. They also met with some distant relatives of Samuel Cotton Gray on his paternal grandmother's side of the family. Miss Lucy and he are related thru their 3rd great grandfathers (they were brothers). Her 3rd Great Grandfather (and also Samuel Gray's 3rd G. Grandfather), John, had received a letter from 1686 from Cotton Mather. Besides this leter they were shown several family heirlooms that were in Lucy's possession.
