This is a letter dated 01/23/1892 from Samuel Gray to his sister Mary Joanna Morton regarding family matters. He says that he received a telegram saying only that "mother died last night" meaning his sister Emily Gray Pittman (1812 - 01/22/1892). He assumes it came from her son Edward G. Pittman (1849 - 01/25/1931). The rest of the letter talks about her and his memories of her the last time he traveled East.
