Gray Letters 1892 05 13Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.272Description
This is a letter dated 05/13/1892 from Samuel Gray to his sister Mary Joanna regarding family matters. He mentions that his granddaughter, Beulah Gray (1891 - 1899) is feeling better. (Beulah is the daughter of Samuel's son Dr. Edward Gray (1849 - 1920) and his wife Maria Willey (1856 - 1942).) Samuel also mentions a fire in the building across the street from his home just that morning. (It was actually a fire in the Starr Saloon.) Another piece of news is that Dr. Edward Gray is moving his practice to Santa Cruz as another doctor in Benicia has reduced his patients so he is no longer profitable.)
This is one of the last letters that Samuel Gray will write as he dies at home of a heart attack on 06/19/1892.
