This is an envelope that was probably used to send one of the letters in our collection. The letter is addressed to Samuel Gray in Benicia, CA so it was after 1849 and postmarked from Columbus, GA with the date November 12th with no year shown. The fact that it is from Columbus, GA and the handwriting indicate that it was sent by Samuel's sister Mary Gray Morton.
(The letter that comes close to this date is 2024.10.1.96 dated 11/11/1859 but it is multiple pages and would be hard to fit in this small envelope.)
