Description

This is a letter dated 04/28/unknown from Harriet Gray Jones to her brother Samuel Gray regarding family matters. The first thing she mentions is how bad her back hurts. She is working on the hats and sending a pattern for one to Samuel for Lucy (Samuel's wife?). She also talks of Lucy (1859 - 1918) (Henry's daughter?) who is working on making a dress. She skipped the school picnic at Dingley's Mill to do more sewing. At the picnic Miss Sprague was thrown in the water and nearly drowned. Harriet tells of Lucy not wanting to move to Sonora and taking care of a large family. Harriet agrees and then comments on the foolishness of Henry Wetmore (1828 - 1889) working at mining. NOTE: Lucy is shown in Suisun in the 1870 census but not in the 1880 census. This letter was probably written in mid to late1870's.
