Silk Handkerchief - embroidered logo (brown bear and U.S. Flag) of the California Midwinter Fair/Exposition which was held in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in 1894. It was an "Orientalist" inspired exposition which lasted from January 27 to July 5, 1894. Some exhibits from the Chicago Fair of 1893 were moved here. Some elements from 1894 remain in the park today: The Japanese Tea Garden, and the Fine Arts Building which became the De Young Museum (to name two). This was the first American International Expositon to be held west of Chicago and 2-1/2 million people attended.
The 19" x 20" scarf is a light ecru color and in the corner opposite the logo are the initials:
