Scope and Content

newspaper photo and article from "The Benician" newspaper dated April 9, 1965. Leonard Ramberg is commemorated as the last employee at Benicia Arsenal at its closure. A copy of his last check (without the amount) is reproduced as an Historic Document -- Last Benicia Arsenal Pay Check. Caption: Leonard Ramburg Leaves Service at Benicia Arsenal - Howard Jenkins, general manager of Bencia Industries, Inc., wishes Leonard Ramburg good luck on his retirement from the Arsenal. Mr. Ramburg was the last employee at the government facility on the payroll. He began working at the Arsenal on September 13, 1941 as a laborer and had worked up to Maintenance foreman and was in charge of the final phase out. Mr. and Mrs. Ramburg will continue to live in Benicia at their home, 138 East O Street. [Mr. Ramberg's name was actually misspelled in the article where a "u" was in place of the "e" in his name. The reproduction of the check shows the correct spelling.]
