Civil War Honorable Discharge paper for James W. Cilley of Crocket, Contra Costa, California, Private, Co. B, 4th Reg't, Cal Inf. Date: Eighteenth day of April, 1966 at Presidio of San Francisco. He served from 2'nd day of March 1862 to 18th day of April 1866. (three years) He was paid his bounty of $100 but was rejected for any additional money in 1869. Written in red ink on one section of back: "A Soldier entitled to a greater bounty than $100 is not entitled to addl. bounty under act July 28, 1866." There is also a blue stamp of which all can not be read. Readable part: "...referred...& rejected...Jan 31 1869...Holmes,P.M. U.S.A" Description: was born in Machias in the State of Maine, is twenty eight years of age, five feet eleven 1/2 inches high, light complexion, gre yes, black hair and by occupation, when enrolled, a shoemaker. size: 8-3/4" x 11" and folds in thirds to 9-1/2" x 4-1/2" to fit in its original envelope.
