19th Century traveling doctor's instrument/surgery kit. It contains scalpels, forceps, a tortise shell handled knife, needle and thread for stitching wonds, and other small medical instruments. The scalpels were made by Tiemann Co. One early publication says that George Tiemann's instruments became the instruments of choice in the 1850s for physicians and surgeons in New York. The tortise shell knife was made by Brinckerhoff of New York. There is no makers name on the kit.Collection
