Scope and Content

This is a ledger showing lots in Benicia starting with block 69 and going to block 142. It shows the name of the owner, the lot number, the block number and the value. The first part of this ledger may be missing since usually the first page shows column headings. In this ledger the headings are blank throughout. The paper used in the ledger changes after 40 or 50 pages from the front and then the last page matches the earlier paper. Also, some lot numbers are skipped in certain blocks or a lot will be listed but no owner will be shown. The two biggest land owners are Robert Semple and Stewart & Cooke. Thomas Larkin is not shown. The ledger may show T.O. Larkin as a blank name. Also, there are lots shown as being owned by Pacific Mail & Steamship Co. (Pacific Mail came to Benicia in 1850.)
