This is a letter from the California Department of Transportation to Mr. Clyde Low, a librarian at Solano Community College dated 07/05/1989. The letter explains the reason for the demolition of an Arsenal Powder Magazine which was near the Benicia-Martinez bridge. The powder magazine was built in 1903 but because of excavations for the bridge done in 1962, the building was becoming unsafe and needed to be demolished.
Included with the letter are photos documenting the condition of the building just prior to demolition. This was done to meet the HABS documentation requirements.
