Scope and Content

This is a facsimile of a historic letter having to do with the discovery of gold in California. It was a series put out by the Book Club of California in December of 1948. We have letters 1 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 / 12 This one is letter 9, Ebenezer Larkin Childs to Thomas O. Larkin September 27, 1848. It is a personal letter from Larkin's brother. It describes how the news of gold discovery was received on the East Coast. It also describes the many people who are making plans to head West.
