This is a facsimile of a historic letter having to do with the discovery of gold in California. It was a series put out by the Book Club of California in December of 1948. We have seven of at least a series of 12.

This one is letter 7, Consul Thomas O. Larkin to Secretary of State James Buchanan. It is dated July, 1848. It describes the conditions in the gold fields and the impact of men leaving the towns near the gold discoveries.Collection
