Scope and Content

Letter dated December 10, 1940 to Mr. Hall McAllister from Mr. Emerson Stoner . "Mr. M. Hall McAllister, Palm Springs, California Dear Mr. McAllister: I have your letter of yesteray and thank you for same. I recall that you wrote to me during the summer when my home was being remodeled under a F.H.A. loan. All of my books and magazines had to be put up in the attic during painting, reroofing and repairs, even my typewriter, and for these reasons I have neglected my correspondence. I would of course be very glad to have my membership retained in the Academy and therefor hasten to advise you to that effect. My bird observations have been few for the past few months, but ducks appear as abundant as they have for several years, in fact more so. Ruddies and canvasback are predominant on the Southampton Bay at Benicia. I haven't been in the Suisun marsh this season but reports seem to indicate the best shooting in years. Two Redheads were taken at Lake Herman, reservoir furnishing the Benicia water supply, last Sunday. The clock at the storehouse tower is in good running order and is overhauled at intervals of approximatelly twice per year. A proposition was made some time back which I may already have advised you of, i.e. to rename Benicia's streets, using historical names rather than letters of the alphabet as at present. One name proposed was McAllister Way for the street leading to the arsenal. The propositon seems however to have been dropped due to objection of some residents that deeds to property would probably have to be corrected to agree with the proposed names if adopted. With best regards, and thanks again, Sincerely yours, (signed) Eastoner" typed on one 8" x 10-1/2" sheet of paper
