Scope and Content

This letter comes from a folder titled "O J Calhoun Sept 18 - 64 Mother's old letters" Letter from a father in Ireland to his daughter in America dated January 26th, 1846. The letter comes from Cullyapple which is either in: County Londonderry or County Antrim The letter talks of family matters and wheather the daughter should move home if she is having trouble supporting herself. The father mentions that one half of the potatoes are defective. The "Great Hunger" or Irish Potatoe Famine" was from 1845 to 1849 when many people emigrated out of Ireland to America. A bit ironic that this father is talking about his daughter returning to Ireland at this time.
