This is a letter from September 18, 1855 from Brigadier General Huger who was an inspector in Washington D.C. of artillery. He describes the problems with artillery pieces failing and what tests they have conducted. He also has a theory for why they have failed. He explains this to Captain Callender in Benicia because a number of guns had been sent to California.
He asks to be remembered to Col. Riley and Captain Stone. He talks about his wife visiting him and people they know in common.Collection
