Scope and Content

Look Magazine, August 4, 1959 for 20 cents. The cover depicts a Sports Car Rally with six convertible coupe automobiles. A caption to a photo states "This lean, ruggedly handsome man is comparatively unknown. Yet Hawaii today is the fiftieth state because of his leadership; America's first civil-rights law since 1875 was his handiwork--in fact, dozens of matters ffecting our destiny are in his hands. Look presents a special section on Texas and its people with a story of the most extraordinary Texan of them all, Lyndon B. Johnson. A touching article on Jack Paar shows the sensitive nonconformist that he was. He is best known for hosting The Tonight Show from 1957 to 1962 to be followed by long time host Johnny Carson. A seven year old Shetland pony was bought for $56,000 won 83 awards, including five grand championships, and was rated one of the world's finest Shetlands.
