Description

Photo of the steamer Onisbo. Built by the California Transportation Company in 1900 on Wood Island near Rio Vista. Company founded by E Anderson. The ship is named after a small town near Sacramento. This photo may have been taken around 06/18/1903 when the Onisbo collided with the British ship Castle Rock at anchor in Carquinez Straits. The pilot, William C Jarvis, was suspended for 6 months. length: 178.1 feet beam: 36.6 draft: 3ft 0 in - 5 ft 0 in tonage: 605 In 1916 it is shown as running the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Mokolumne rivers.
