Description

This is a photo of a man in a liquor store behind the counter. The man in the photograph is Jack Waterson. He was from Oklahoma or somewhere in the midwest. He bought the Black & White Liquors on the corner of First and I Sts. from Thomas Wright in 1942. Thomas Wright owned two stores called the Black and White. One was next to the old State Theater and the other at First and I Sts. Jack Waterson consolidated the stores at a single location, First and Sts. Jack Waterson died in July 1959 at the age of only 47 and his son-in-law, Jerry Wells, took over the business. Shortly after that the Nickolatas brothers bought the business. (They also owned a liquor store in Vallejo.) The jacket that Mr. Waterson is wearing was blue in color. When the Nickolatas brothers took over they discontinued the wearing of the jackets.
