Description

These negatives were in an envelope marked "Arsenal" and with a note asking for a 5x7" enlargement at the rate of $.35 each for seven enlargements. There is also a stamp on the front from Frank J. Stumm Publisher Benicia, California. Frank Stumm was the jeweler who published a number of postcards of the region during the early 1900s. These may be negatives from John Molfino that were considered for publishing as postcards by Stumm. This photo shows a marching band going down First Street in Benicia. It is titled "Scene on First Street". This is the same title as an old Frank Stumm postcard. That postcard shows a band on First Street but with many spectators and it was taken earlier than this scene. This may be an attempt to recreate that postcard. The band is in front of the People's Bank. Further down the street is a Benicia Machine Shop and a building with advertisements on its roof for "Mail Pouch". Kuhland's store is on the other side of the street.
