"North Bay Journal and Visits of Gold Rush San Francisco". Selected excerpts follow Frank Marryat in his first year in California, when he lived near the Russian River, July 1850 - June 1851. After he went to San Francisco for a short time he moved to Tuttletown, near Sonora. He spent over 2 years in the small mining town. He left with plans to return but ill health kept him in England, his home. He completed his California book in 1854. He died in 1855 at age 29
