Scope and Content

One of a series of eleven pamphlets published by The Associated Oil Company and addressed to Mr.E. B McNear. Each piece is a 9"x24" folded stock with a full page photograph plus a facing page of explanatory verbage. Ten of which involve the building of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay Bridge Both bridges commenced contruction in 1933. The eleventh pamphlet is similiar but involves the Tacoma Narrows Bridge project. The Associated Oil Company supplied the motor oils and lubricants used by the construction equipment. The photo is an aerial view of the Golden Gate Bridge South Tower during early construction. Only a partially completed tower plus the southern approach is shown. The facing page passage starts; "Never before has a bridge pier arisen naked from the open sea. It remains for the Golden Gate Bridge to win this distinction for the West...." This set of two identical pamphlets.
