Sample earmarkings on a piece of leather for E. P. Howell, only the year (1854) of registration date is known because no information is written in a Ledger of the Solano County Recorder 1855-1916.
No paper is adhered to the back of the piece. The piece is in the shape of two ears next to each other. "Left Ear" is written in ink on the left and there is a one inch slit in the top. A "Z" is burnt into that side. "Right Ear" is written in ink on the right and there is no slit. A "O" is burnt into that side.
