Photograph of several men loading cartridges (in 114 pound circular sacks) for big gun 12-inch rifles circa 1900. These cartridges were made for Battery Kirby, an Army defense location in Marin at the entrance to the San Francisco Bay. These 12-inch big guns had a range of 10,000 yards (5.7 Miles).Collection
