Description

This is a divided back postcard. The photo is of Mrs. Pete Anderson, the mother of Albina, Florence, Edmund and Herbert Anderson according to what is written on the back. The photo is a copy of an old round Kodak image. It shows a woman holding a cat next to the Hastings Mansion at the corner of West 2nd and M St.. There is an Anderson family in Benicia in the 1900 and 1910 census. In 1900 Pete (1846) is a deck hand (steemer) married to Amelia (1850) with Albina (1881) Walter (1883) Edmund (1884) and Florence (1886). In the 1910 census Pete and Emelia are living with Albina in a large boarding house on West F street in Benicia. Round images were indicative of the old Kodak No. 1 camera. The camera was released about 1889 and took 100 photos on roll film before needing to be sent in to Kodak for developing. It was probably the first camera made for amateur photographers.
