This is an undivided back postcard. The photo is of the ferryboat "Solano". The card was not published by Frank J. Stumm of Benicia, CA. The card was a reprint of a card published by Lightfoot Collection of New York. The back contains Stephen DeBenedetti's stamp.
This photo could be by the famous photographer Carleton Watkins. The ferryboat Solano was built by Arthur Brown the Superintendant of the Bridge and Building Department of the Central Pacific at the Oakland Point shipyard. Watkins boyhood friend was an executive with the Central Pacific RR and Watkins is known to have done mammoth plate photographs of the railroads and railroad ferryboats in the Vallejo, Benicia, Port Costa area prior to 1880.Collection
