Description

This is a colorized Stumm postcard of the Martinez waterfront. It shows farms in the foreground and sailing ships moored in the Carquinez Straits. The back has a printed statement about Benicia and how it voted to "macadamize" their streets. At the bottom is the message "Keep Your Eye on Benicia". This is a divided back postcard. There are two other postcards with this same or similar image. One is 2004.011.0241. It is a divided back colorized postcard but without the printed statement on the back about the roads in Benicia. These are both by Frank Stumm. The third one is a black & white card with some tanks showing in the foreground. It is an undivided back card and is not by Frank Stumm. Since divided back postcards came out later than un-divided back postcards it seems that Frank Stumm "borrowed" this image, cleaned it up by removing the tanks in front and colorized the card. He then made two versions, one with a pre-printed statement and one without.
