A poster for the Majestic theater advertizing the Benny-Betty Fox Sky Dancers with their 8 piece band. It also advetizes "on screen" John and Lionel Barrymore in "Arsene Lupin". The day is given as 06/21 but there is no year. This film came out in 1932 and June 21st was on a Tuesday that year. The problem is that the film was re-released in 1938 and June 21st was again on a Tuesday that year,
BENNY_BETTY FOX: But others were more daring. Among them were Benny and Betty Fox. Not only did they jitterbug, but they did it on a 20 inch disk high above the streets and county fairs of America. They even appeared at the New York World's Fair of 1939-40 and made a Hollywood movie.
The routine included more than just dancing. In reality it was form of acrobatics. "They danced, they whirled, they stood on their hands," wrote the next day's newspaper. The pair were real crowd pleasers. In a particularly daring touch, Benny held Betty out and whirled her around the platform, which brought a roar of approval from the crowd. But the biggest cheer for Betty came as she, supported by Benny, bent back over the edge of the platform and picked up a handkerchief 3 feet below the 20 inch disk. Benny's loudest cheers came when he stood upside down on his hands for 30 seconds.Collection
