Small reproduction/replica of a WWI poster by Howard Chandler Christy (1/10/1872--3/3/1952). He was an American artist and Illustrator. He first attracted national attention with his realistic illustrations and articles as a combat artist during the Spanish-American War. He turned away from war and painting men in uniform by creating "The Christy Girl". With his first wife, Maebelle Thompson, as inspiration he captured the modern American woman: tall, confident, elegant, witty, and athletic. When WWI started Christy shifted to more patriotic imagery. "The Christy Girls" became part of the WWI poster propaganda, as part of the Committee on Public Information in the Dept. of Pictorial Publicity, established by President Woodrow Wilson. During the war Christy produced 40 posters.
