Description

B/W photo originally in a black wood frame with gold trim, under glass. The photo is glued to a mat board. A caption also glued to the mat board reads: "The Commandant's Home, built in 1860, is a 20-room mansion of classic Georgian design with fourteen-foot ceilings and twenty-four-inch-thick walls. The home served as center for many social functions of the elite Bay Area society in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Today the residence is in active service as a restaurant." note: after a fire the restaurant was closed. After many years of unuse the building was completely restored by the city and currently houses a "technology cafe" business.
