Description

2 B/W photographs originally under glass in a black wood frame. The photographs are glued to a mat board. The photo on the left is of an old wood frame house with ornate peaked roof and porches on two sides. The caption reads: "John Walsh, a retired sailing vessel captain, settled in Benicia in 1849; His home was one of three identical houses shipped around the horn from Boston. The home is now a private residence." It has also been a bed and breakfast inn, The Captain Walsh House. The photo on the right is of an elevated wood frame house with a staircase leading to the porch on the left. The caption reads: "Many of the residences of Benicia, although not marked by the city as points of interest to tourists, retain the charming architecture of the early period." This house is on West J Street. [note: photographs are under glass and could not be scanned at this time 10/2008]
