Description

B/W photograph - view of First Street looking north east from West G Street in front of the Capitol building. The photo is in poor condition with a missing section appearing to have been burned away. A number of buildings are visible: John O'Grady;s Drugs and Medicines store at the right, the National Theatre next door on the left, then on the other side of the missing section are other buildings including one with an awning reading "D.J Quinn" grocer. A large crowd of people is on the sidewalks and in the street. Two men are on horseback, one is dressed as an Indian (Redmen's Association member?) It could be the aftermath of a parade at a Fourth of July 1917 celebration. A postcard version of this scene is object ID#2004.011.0036
