Queen Anne Bungalow - Constructed circa 1910
Historic Name: Mayor Wright Residence
History: This residence is one of a handful of bungalows built in the central part of the city during the early 20th century. At one time this was the home of former Mayor Thomas Wright and his wife Irma, longtime member and supporter of the Historical Society.
Architecture: A very distinctive and stylish bungalow constructed in the central area of Benicia after the standard cottage type became unfashionable. Although of modest design, the unique and inviting front entry and porch beckons the visitor. Interior features include a built-in secretary and china cabinets and extensive wood trim and mouldings. There is also a ballroom.
In 1992 (when Irma Wright died) the house was sold and was completely remodelled with rooms added at the rear, new roofing, a poured concrete basement, evening of the floors, removal of the carriage house/garage, complete repainting of the exterior and large sections of overgrown shrubry.Collection
