Photo of the Benicia Grammar School. It is stamped on the back as "Bear Photo Service 3620 San Pablo Ave, 1 Oakland, Calif". Written on the back is:
1882 - 1939
Moved from State Capital Bldg.
The school used to be held at the State Capitol building. This is a copy of an old photo.
There is a telescope in front of the building. Also, built into the upper railing of the top balcony are the words: "public", "school" and "Girls". I assume the word "girls" refers to the side of the entrance used by girls when the building had separate stairways on the left and right.Collection
