Known by several names: Walsh House, Frisbie-Walsh House, Wetmore House
Gothic Revival Cottage, example of an East Coast pre-fab house; horizontal shiplap, wood frame original building has original barge board decorations at steep gable roof as well as original trim at doors and at 6 over 6 pane double hung windows. There are dormer windows with barge board at 2nd level. Constructed in 1850, a two-story addition was done in the rear in 1860's.
Significant because (1) superb example of a Gold Rush Era pre-fab house shipped around The Horn from the East; (2) General Vallejo's home "Lachryma Montis" in Sonoma bears a striking resemblance to this Benicia cottage; (3) people associated with it: Eleanor Walsh and husband Capt. John Walsh; John J. Frisbie and bride Ephphania, daughter of Mariano Vallejo; builders Theodore Shillaber of Everett & Co.Collection
